New results show Innovation Center ACO performance is bending the Medicare cost curve WASHINGTON, D.C., October 16, 2017 On Friday, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (Innovation Center) released the Performance Year (PY) 2016 results for the first year of the Next Generation ACO Model and the Comprehensive ESRD Care Model and for the final year of the Pioneer ACO Model.
These new results demonstrate the significant value of accountable care models, and across this relatively small group of program participants, they saved almost $200 million for Medicare. Collectively, over 75 percent of these organizations performed well enough to share savings with Medicare. The overall amount of savings and the proportion of those qualifying for earned shared savings reflects the deep commitment these organizations have to changing how care is delivered and demonstrates very positive results for beneficiaries and for Medicare. This sends a strong message about the role of accountable care models and their significant contributions to Medicare. The National Association of ACOs (NAACOS) is pleased to see that the hard work of the ACOs continues to reduce spending while improving quality of care for millions of Medicare beneficiaries across the country. While the results of the Innovation Center accountable care models are currently available, we are awaiting the public release of the PY 2016 results for the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). Once available, NAACOS will analyze that performance and provide feedback. About NAACOS.
